General Application Information

Before Applying

Follow these four steps to ensure a smooth application process:

  1. Review Criteria: Check the eligibility rules for your specific program below.
  2. Gather Documents: Prepare required statements, proof of need, or recommendation letters.
  3. Select Your Form: Choose the correct online application (Scholarship, Grant, or Award).
  4. Submit in Full: Turn in all required items at once. Incomplete applications may delay or prevent review.

Important Funding Policies

  • Availability & Selection: Meeting eligibility criteria does not guarantee funding. Award amounts and selections depend on available funds, priority of need, and application volume.
  • 5-Year Grant Rule: Individuals who have previously received an NBCDC grant must wait 5 years before applying for another grant (unless an explicit program exception applies).
  • Review Schedule: Hardship requests are reviewed year-round as funds allow; academic and recognition awards follow designated evaluation cycles.

Application Deadline: Open Year-Round (Subject to Fund Availability)

Important Information

  • Scholarships, grants, and awards are subject to the availability of NBCDC funds.
  • Funding amounts and the number of recipients may vary based upon available resources, demonstrated need, program priorities, and the number of eligible applications received.
  • Meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee an award.
  • NBCDC reserves the right to request additional information or documentation when necessary to evaluate an application.
  • NBCDC may be unable to fund every eligible request.
  • Applicants should submit only one application for the same need unless instructed otherwise by NBCDC.
  • Individuals who have previously received an NBCDC grant are generally subject to a five-year waiting period before becoming eligible to receive another grant, unless NBCDC establishes an exception or a particular program provides otherwise.

Post-Submission

NBCDC will review submitted applications for completeness and eligibility. Applicants may be contacted if additional information or documentation is needed.

Applicants will be notified after a decision has been made. Because funding is limited, submission of a complete application and satisfaction of eligibility requirements do not guarantee approval.

Emergency or hardship assistance, including utility and rental assistance, may be reviewed throughout the year based upon demonstrated need and the availability of funds.

Scholarships and recognition awards may operate according to separately announced application, nomination, selection, and award periods.
